As of April 9, 2025, a new executive order from the White House significantly increases tariffs on goods imported from China, including those that fall under the $800 de minimis threshold — a change that directly impacts many netParcel users.
What’s Coming as of May 2, 2025
- Tariffs on Chinese imports will increase from 34% to 84%
- Low-value shipments under $800 now face:
- 90% ad valorem duty (up from 30%), or,
- A $75 per-shipment fee (up from $25)
- This per-shipment fee will increase to $150 by June 1, 2025
What This Means for You
If you use netParcel to ship goods from China or from Chinese suppliers:
- Expect higher customs charges
- Consider adjusting pricing or sourcing from other countries
- Double-check declared values and weights to avoid unexpected fees
What You Can Do
- Ensure you are using accurate Harmonized System (HS) codes on all customs forms — incorrect codes may lead to misapplied duties
- Review and verify the true country of origin for each product, especially when working with drop-shippers or third-party suppliers
- Monitor for updates in your netParcel dashboard or carrier communications
